Oh you have it right -- the jaws will leave a slight scar on the nut. Most of it can be filed down, but I was more concerned with the driveshaft staying on than it looking pretty! You have the right idea. You can probably get by leaving one wrench alone and propping it on the floor (put a 6" or so square of 3/4" plywood or 2x6 block between wrench and floor to spread the load). May as well cut the other off for a cheater pipe before you even start. --------------- Date: Fri, 28 Mar 2008 09:44:17 -0700 (PDT) From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> > >I use a pair of 24" pipe wrenches. You can adjust them to the flats just like regular wrenches. Helps that I happened to have access to a pair of them though! > I just can't bear the thought of those nasty tooth marks on the nut! I found a Fuller brand (eh) wrench that was vanadium steel, forged, and cheap. They're combos, but if they're not long enough I'll grind the box end and snap 'em off for pipes. > -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
