A lifesaver (well, mental-heath saver) for me has been this little hand-held IR thermometer from Radio Shack. The temp gauge on my American occasionally runs up to 2/3rds, normally it's at 1/3rd. No reason I can detect! One time this happened I was able to cut the motor, immediately pull off to the side, pop the hood with gauge in hand and within 15 seconds measured the water neck, back of head, radiator tank, heater hose, etc -- all was fine (in fact low-normal), so it was the gauge (probably the sender or gauge voltage regulator) gone goofy. I even got to check it against an actual laboratory mercury thermometer and a K-type thermocouple and it's pretty good. I've checked the air-cooled trans pan temp after a long highway hill (250 degrees), tires, brake balance left to right, water, oil, it's a real mystery-solver. Everyone should have one! Exhausts are too hot, too bad! _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
