Arghh!! I should have remembered this, had to research it for someone who asked about their trans... Pre 65 trannys used the TV cable only. 65-66 used both a TV cable AND a vacuum reference -- BOTH must be connected. I don't know exactly what the vacuum reference does, but the cable is still used for primary pressure modulation and kick-down. Vacuum moves a valve also, apparently as an additional pressure modifier. 67+ used a vacuum modulator and electric kick-down, no cable. ------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Mar 2008 14:43:02 -0400 (EDT) From: adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Sandwich Maker) " >I have a 1965 Rambler 660 Classic with a 232 an a flash-o-matic. Thanks a lot for your time!!! 1. i don't think the tranny has a cable. when i got my '67 marlin [with 232 and auto] it wouldn't shift, like yours. took it to a tranny shop and found a $20 fitting on the case had busted, leaving a vacuum line from the intake hanging and locking the tranny into full-throttle-kickdown mode. one clue was that it would shift manually. 2. you could get an amc 287, 290, or 304 to fit the aluminum automatic, but it would be a lot of work for little gain. if you want a little more juice from the motor, you could try the 2bbl carb setup and manifolds from a late '70s or '80s 258 and a hei distributor from a late '70s chevy 250, recurved. this will drop in if you use the gear from your points dist. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
