The two shift levers are interlinked together with a rod, two balls and a spring. It provides the detent and also prevents 1-R and 2-3 simultaneous engagement. If even one ball falls out, neither 1-R or 2-3 will have much of a detent. So -- if 2-3 feels normal, but 1-R doesn't, it's likely not that thing. Crawl onto the frozen junk under your car you call dirt, pop out the clip, and see if 1-R is nice and detenty :-) On Mon, 17 Mar 2008, d stohler wrote: > my trans in my 62 classic 196/t96 keeps popping out of > 1st gear... could be, but not sure, the shift stops > from my daytona floor shifter i put in it about 7 > years ago. but the thing is, it JUST started doing it. > i dont feel it "click" into 1st gear anymore. maybe > the little ball that is on the shift lever inside the > trans has gone? i had it apart about a year ago. > trans, and rear end. replaced a couple bearings in the > rear, tore the trans all apart to inspect synchros, > and gear teeth/mesh, and bearings. everything looked > good then. just wondering if anyone else has had this > problem and/or knows if it is fixing to be terminal. > if it is, i will just have to kick my 304/t-5 build > into high gear i guess. i have a lot of the parts to > get it done. just have had other things to take > priority. > > dave stohler > http://picasaweb.google.com/das24rules > > > ____________________________________________________________________________________ > Looking for last minute shopping deals? > Find them fast with Yahoo!
