I used to work on my 66 American in Huntington Beach. I lived in a middle class blue collar neighborhood without many low-life neighbors. I used to leave my garage door open and I had (past tense) a lot of nice power tools and air tools. The garage was always closed and (I thought.) locked at night. The side door may have been left unlocked one night. I and the police were never able to tell if the lock had been jimmied. Anyway, I went out the garage one morning to let the cat in the house, and discovered that all of my power tools were gone. The police didn't even bother doing fingerprinting or anything like that. They did assign a detective and he accepted what information I could provide about tool serial numbers etc. They said they would check pawn shops in the area, but I never heard from them again. The claim on my homeowners insurance was $860 and I still lost a lot of money.
