[Amc-list] PRNDL vrs PNDLR

Saturday I pulled a steering column off of a 61 American 4 door station wagon that had PNDLR (Park Neutral Drive Low Reverse) instead of PRNDL.  It seems like it will work, but when and why was there a difference?  What is the history of this?
