Re: [Amc-list] what engine is this?

To elaborate on what Tom said... you need the passenger car oil pan because the Jeep pan is deeper and holds an extra quart of oil. Sounds like it would be nice, but the deeper pan is about 1.5" lower and extends below the crossmember in most passenger cars. That means if something is in the road and you hit it, could take the oil pan out! You will also need to change the pickup tube on the oil pump, just swap your old one in. The Eagle may possibly use the deeper Jeep pan, but I don't think so. If it takes 5.5-6 quarts for an oil change with filter it's got the Jeep pan (4.5-5 quarts for passenger car pan w/filter).

I ran a Jeep pan when I first put a 4.0L in my car back in 1998. About a year later I changed the pan out. An alignment shop creased the pan getting the car on the rack, and that was the SECOND time something had hit the pan (first time it actually holed it though). They brazed the hole and checked/refilled the oil (no charge of course) and told me about it.

You need a new oil pan. I have a jeep motor in my Hornet,
and that's the only change I made. I did use passenger car
accessories. 83 motor...
