Yeah, but don't over-carb. They way those cars are geared, the motor simply doesn't pump enough CFM to make them work. At 1600rpm a 232 is pumping 91 CFM max. At 3000rpm a 232 is pumping 171 CFM max. That's assuming 85% VE. It's VERY easy to over-carb. > cliffordperformance.com has a triple sidedraft weber intake. they > also have amc car exhaust headers. SUPER COOL! But you'd want tiny, tiny carbs! Motorcycle carbs! Clifford says "6=8" but for this product on a street car, I'd say "cool>performance". > " As a second option can I hook up a 304 to the > " really nice B/W Flash-O-Matic currently in the car, or would I need to > " replace the trans with the engine? Is this an easy change over? A manual trans, even a T14 three speed, would make the car a lot more "crisp" and tight. The 232 has flat torque literally designed to work with such broad gear spreads, and T14's are cheap as dirt. Seriously, if you hop your 140hp six up to even 175, it'll drive like a small v8! but it won't stress your nice, cheap, easy and EXISTING! six driveline parts. You could buy and ship used T14, flywheel, new clutch and pressure plate, and clutch linkage, for less money than rebuilding a Borg Warner automatic. I have no beef with those; they're fine, and I just had one rebuilt ($1200). But if you ahve one laying around... :-) Unlike the V8, you can simply bolt on/off manual/auto trans without re-balancing motor guts. > you'll also want a v8 rear and a general brake upgrade if you bump the > power much. good news, a '79-'83 concord/spirit brake system is a > bolt-on - if you get -everything-. Brake upgrade -- always good! Discs or 10" drums (I'm on a drum fad right now :-) Unless you go near/over 200hp or whatever, the six axle should be fine. For a hopped up stock six there's no need, and the V8 axle weighs 75 lbs more (the Gremlin already has a poor sprung/unspring weight problem back there! -- talk about wheel hop on corners), are harder to find, needs a new driveshaft, etc etc... why bother? _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
