I'm one of the others who think an adapter for the trans could be made, but it's a lot of work. You're better off getting a 72 or later 232/258/4.0L. Those use the V-8 bell housing pattern, and there's a bolt-on bell (any late 70s+ AMC stick shift bell) that takes the Ford T-5. Or if you find a Jeep XJ two wheel drive with trans get the whole drivetrain, 4.0L and all. Not the best car trans (it's a little "notchy", not smooth shifting at all), but it's fine for a daily driver. speed shifting won't happen though! I know you hate to get rid of a good 232 you already have, but you might want to consider trading it or selling for a later model engine if you want a four or five speed. Your only bolt-in option is an old style OD transmission, and they aren't easy to find for the 232. The old 196 trans (T-96) fits, but it's not really up to the power of a 232. It's just adequate for the old 196! What do you need to know about the clutch linkage? I could scan a pic of it from the factory parts manual or TSM. Drop me an e-mail if that's what you need. ------------ Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2008 10:03:41 -0500 From: "Case Construction" <fngcase@xxxxxxxxxxx> I have a 1965 American that I bought without a motor and transmission. It was a standard shift car, so I have the pedal assembly. I have a 1968 232 c.i. AMC motor from a 1968 Javelin that I want to install with a T-10 4 speed or a t-4 or T-5. Can anyone tell me what bell housing I need to get to make this engine connect with any of these transmissions? Also, any information on the shifted clutch linkages would be helpful. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
