Will take that much bore, but getting pistons is a different story. I've never seen or heard of any replacement pistons over 0.060. Replacements used to be listed in 0.020 increments for them -- 0.020, 0.040, 0.060. I did read in a 50s speed magazine that one was bored 0.080 over, but could have been a custom forged piston. The pistons have a tall offset dome and are relatively tall above the piston pin. That and the small 3.125" standard bore makes getting different size pistons tough. Maybe some old foreign engines would have something of similar bore and height, but the dome is still a deal-killer. A flat piston would reduce compression by 2-3 points (around 6-7:1). Would make a great high boost turbo setup, but the big combustion chamber wouldn't be conducive to good burning. -------------- Date: Sat, 16 Feb 2008 20:43:24 -0500 From: Matt Haas <mhaas@xxxxxxx> Can't the 196's take stupid big over bores? I though you could get up to .125" over sized pistons for them. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
