the solution is simple!  set up a home network with one machine
designated to serve a network drive [from mirrored or raid disks
maybe], and put your important info there.  one copy visible
everywhere!

if you're into macs or linux you can even have it serve home [desktop]
folders, but microsoft makes it really hard to do that.
