Pretty much an Off Topic post here, but I think others can relate… Condensed version of the story: My father passed a couple of months back. He had told my Mom that he really did not want any of us kids to get “the car” (‘67 Firebird Ragtop). Basically he did not want to see a “fight” over it. Mom has decided that she WILL sell the car to one of us (sister no interest) at price although… Brother basically informed me that he still wants to go fast (building a 400 Olds Toro powered buggy now) so if I want it, go for it. He DOES NOT want to see the car running around hometown with anyone else in it as well. Car was purchased after I left home for military, late 70’s and basically restored/rebuilt/and enjoyed by my parents for close to 30 years. Car is a very nice driver.. very respectable at any cruise or local show. The number I heard from my brother, that he heard, was at around 10K.. I would have to probably make payments, “but I know the seller”…. Not too big issue there. The biggest issue will be that I will be moving overseas for, well undetermined just how long, but will probably be 10 years at least. If I purchase, I will have to store it.. Is it worth that to the car?? Hoses, seals, etc. will no doubt get brittle, tires, the top…... Finding a secure storage?? The car (and home) is 1500 miles away from me right now. Mom said I could keep in the garage there, but have seen her drive the lawn tractor…. Many number of other things to consider.. Wife has “signed off” on this if happens.. this is kinda big as “we” sold our car “the one we will never sell”, the 65 American ragtop a couple of months ago due to our logistical issues.. She loves this car and agrees with me and my brother that it would really be nice if stays in family... The smart and right thing to do verse the heart.. Please your thoughts..
