AMC wasn't the only one guilty of that. My 78 El Camino (305 with auto) has 2.35's in it and when it was running, it would take off (in a cloud of smoke) with all of the might of a lawn mower with power drive. It would pretty much build steam forever. The speedo only goes up to 85 and I know it does at least that. That is the only car I've ever had (not counting parts cars) that will not spin the tires (even in the rain on a hill). Overdrive is a much better way to keep the revs down on the highway than excessively high gear ratios. Matt Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx wrote: > Forgot about that! > My moms 83 automatic had 2:21's!!! I run 3:31's but also have 255/60/15's. > > -- > Mark Price > Morgantown, WV > 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 > 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.7L, Quadratrc II > " Chronic Pain Hurts" > > -------------- Original message ---------------------- > From: amxron <amxron@xxxxxxxxxxx> >> Check the rear gear ratio it's probably way down in the 2's, those cars were >> dead brand new! >> >> >> >> amxron >> 70 AMX >> 70 Hornet >> 78 FSJ Wagoneer >> Fleet&JEEP Mgr >> Orbit/AMC-JEEP 50-1787 >> >> >> _______________________________________________ >> Amc-list mailing list >> Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx >> http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list > > _______________________________________________ > Amc-list mailing list > Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx > http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list > > > -- mhaas@xxxxxxx Cincinnati, OH http://www.mattsoldcars.com 1967 Rambler American wagon 1968 Rambler American sedan ================================================================= According to a February 2003 survey of Internet holdouts released by UCLA's Center for Communication Policy, people cite not having a computer as the No. 1 reason they won't go online. _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
