So it's more of an "oval ring" -- but principal is the same. The only "o-ringing" I know about is basically a groove cut in the block and/or head with a copper wire fitted in the groove. I've heard of "o-ringed" flat-head Ford V-8 blocks, and would assume that's what they did. A medium density copper wire will bend around the contour just fine.
