That's why I mentioned, Here in the "rustbelt" attention has to be paid to the internals of all these areas.
A heavy coating on the exterior will protect well, but what a surprise if the metal dissapears underneath it!
  My convertible has damage to the bottoms of it's subframes due to someone turfng it. I am cutting the top floor off the subframes in the front, straighteining them then coating them with rust encapsulater Once that is done the floors will be welded back on using weldthru zinc primer and finaly I'll use a wand of some sort to try and give it a coating after it is all welded up. Should last for many,many years.
