Hey, I'm REAL familiar with the subject line, though not usually referring to cars when I've used it... (military) ;> You're correct, the American used a hang on bag with the foot pump. It was mounted on the left side on the front part of the spring tower IIRC. Of course dealers (or owners if they added later or bought the kit from a dealer) mounted them wherever they had room -- I've seen them all over, but always somewhere on the left side in the 61-63 Americans. The little one-way valve that keeps it from blowing back into the bag is usually mounted on the firewall above where it goes into the cab -- through the wire harness plug. The metal cap HAS to be up for it to work. The "jet" on the hood is mounted in the center, I believe in a large hole in the brace, but don't hold me to that! That's where it is on my Classic, and I seem to recall it there on the American as well. No under hood photos of my old car though. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
