Sad, but true John! My 63 Classic is mildly rodded. When my first was totaled 4-5 years ago I settled for $9500 and kept the car (another $500 in value, according to the adjuster). According to the value guides it was worth roughly $3700 as a #2 (average mixed resto) in Classic 550 configuration -- 195.6 OD trans. On a good day it would be hard to sell a restored base model Classic wagon, and cost $15K to restore it. I figure my car is worth in the $12K-$15K range easily today -- as a mild hot rod. Base model (all makes) and less popular cars have always been good fodder for hot rodders, and Ramblers have been showing up more of late, I seem to see 3-4 a year in magazines, which means even more are being done. The more popular cars cost to much in good condition or are more valuable restored, though that doesn't stop some rodders with deep pockets. But for the average rodder it does. I wouldn't rod something historic, rare, valuable, or even a "plain jane" in really good original condition, but some just don't have those morals. When I was looking to replace my wrecked car I turned down a 64 Classic 660 that was in really great "survivor" condition for $2500. I wanted to use the EFI engine and make some mods, so I looked for one that needed a drivetrain, interior, and paint, but was relatively solid. I would have no more money in it, but a lot less time if I'd bought that "good" car and converted it instead. I just couldn't do it! I've seen the pics of that 63 hard top mentioned though. It's definitely professionally built all the way! Under the hood the "humps" were cut out and replaced with hand made flat panels that look like they were put there by the factory. The entire front chassis clip was mostly fabricated. If you have to have a modified Rambler, that's one to get. I don't know that he'll get such a premium price for it though. It's still not as popular as something like a Falcon done the same way. --------------- Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2007 11:42:41 -0400 From: "John Elle" <johnelle@xxxxxxxxx> Now this is a good example of extreme Rambler mentality. 1963 Rambler American Hardtop, 440hp 302, C4, A/C MustangII, 9" less than 100 miles, award winning and feature car in national shows and magazines------$36,000.00 They're worth more hotrodded.
