These kinds of problems can be sometimes a terror to find, but usually end up
somethin simple.
First off, I'd suspect that damned AMC fuseblock. It's a piece of crap. Check
that the battery feed wire is TIGHT! The faston connectors loosen with age
due to vibration of the wires, combined with heating caused by poor crimps of
the fuse clips internally and the looseness of the faston themselves. If any
of them slide on and off easily it's likely the problem.
Pull it off, lightly crimp the curled sides tighter, and push it back on. If
it's corroded in there you'll have to clean it up with 600 grit paper or
something. Don't short out the battery wire to ground!
You did say everything goes out, why I suspect this. A dead short would do the
same thing, but you'd eventually smell it, and a big short would be ruinous.
