Lookin to build a 258....stroker...bad ===.=== OK - so join strokers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx pull that 258 crankshaft out of your '74 cylinder block - it is the 'Heavy' 12 counterweight crankshaft - "Preferred" for 'High Performance' however - you'll have to have it Lightened and Balanced. Having the 12ctw is preferred by BMW and Mercedes - the engine can take RPM and stay silky smooth right up to 9 grand. In it's current configuration - it is great for rock crawling since it is so fu!kin counterweighted you can spin 500rpm and still keep moving...... but it is a stone slug otherwise. Now - get yourself a complete 1996 or newer 4.0 engine. Next - get the ECM and harness from an '88-'89 Cherokee 4.0 - this is the 'Renix' computer and it gets along with aftermarket performance camshafts nicely. Get the flywheel or flexplate from the Renix Cherokee as it has more reference marks than does the later '90 up DCx - they cheapened it so skip it. Next - get a '99 4.0 Intake Manifold Next - decide if you plan to stick a Turbo on the end of that '88 or '89 4.0 stainless steel header or not. Nice Turbo from www.mjmturbo.com is under $600.00 and will put you into the 350HP gig. Next - You should watch eBay for the BORLA stainless header for the '88 - '89 cherokee as it will work in your Gremlin. If you're going Turbo - get Forged Pistons and I like Venolia. If you're going NA - you can get Silvolites - check the strokers for infos. The boys on Strokers are having HYDRAULIC OR SOLID ROLLER CAMSHAFTS made up at this time. Don't miss the opportunity of a lifetime cause it takes 6 to make the order happen...... you're engine will simply kick ass with a Roller Cam in it. Good so far ? A second mortgage should just about cover it. Now ..... should you want to save a few bucks and still howl...... get a set of Forged pistons for your 258. Get the '93 cylinder head / '99 intake manifold and the ECM + harness from a '88-'89 cherokee > check www.naxja.org for these - you'll find them cheap there - forget Carbs - get with the Electronic Fuel Injection. Have your crankshaft lightened and balanced. Get the www.mjmturbo.com turbo - I have the stats on it somewhere. Get a CRANE Turbo cam - or get that Roller if you have the bux. Get the entire kit with new valve keepers and locks as the AMC items are known to drop valves. You'll kick out 325 to 375 HP depending on your Intercooler. Set up a Methanol injection system - find info on the .net - easy. Plenty to think about - _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
