I learned a long time ago about how subjective "ugly" is. It's that kind of irresponsible journalism that irks me to no end. The old addage, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" can also be rephrased with the word "ugly", and be just as true. IMHO, a better title for that article would have been "The 10 Most Unusual Cars." The "bug-eyed Matador", Pacer, Gremlin, etc. were AMC. If any of those cars had been built by one of the "big 3" they would have been haled as trend setting genius cars. I went to a cruise this evening, and saw one of the most beautiful examples of a '55 Cross Country you could imagine. It was coral and white, and was flawlessly restored. Confusing to me, it was labled a Hudson! I asked a fellow sitting near the back of the car if it was his. He rudely snapped back, "We don't DO RAMBLERS!" I said, "Too bad. You might like 'em if you TRIED one." Why was it so important to that guy to be so antiganistic about "Rambler"? Was his mother frightened by one when she was carrying him? AMC fans are, or have to be, some of the strongest enthusiasts in the Collector Car world. We take more flack than KISS fans! I hear people like Mr. Rude throw down on us. Then, I walk back to my Marlin, and watch the people FLOCK to it, smiling, pointing, commenting on its shape, and how beautiful it is. They remark at how much on that car is original, and still looking good. Meanwhile, everything around me is just as old, or older, by style, but virtually BRAND NEW from the ground up. "Ugly?" Perhaps in their eyes. But, I think most of us who own AMC cars, particularly the three in that list, see them quite differently. I'm proud to have three AMC cars in my posession, and wouldn't have it any other way. Personally, I think each one of them is beautiful, and I'm sure every one of us at this list feels the same about theirs. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
