> I'd love to see it fully restored and operable, and in my garage! I've always had a deep interest in electric cars. It's also ironic that we finally have a job posting out for another guy at work which will allow me to have spare time to work on my stuff. Only to find that I may as well not have it. Doing physical labor right now only leads to misery. I actually signed up to steward Union labor at a concert this weekend as it is better then sitting around being miserable, plus it'll help me pay off some of the evilbay stuff I keep buying in the hopes I will be able to use it soon!
> I will hold out hope that when I get into a pain clinic one of the few options left will work or at least let me work on a limited basis. Otherwise I will begin parting out everything but the American. I can find enough funds to pay someone to do the new trans and rearend in it. I can't begin to fund the convertible, it will have to go.

I removed the metal off of the large mounting tang on the delco alternator and it slips into the top bracket hole without a problem. At the bottom of the bracket I started filing away at the adjusting slot to get enough clearance for the alternator bolt, but just realized that I won't be able to really adjust the alternator position because it will hit the oil filter.

> If the cam looked good, I'm surprised you are having this much trouble. The new lifters should not be an issue and should have worked fine on a used cam. No oil to the top end should not affect lifter rotation either as the oil "should" be in the lifter. Especially with the shaft head. My knee jerk reaction is the cam is actually bad. Your pressure is great, so i doubt your cam bearings are shot. Could be lifters themselves. what oil filter is on it? The drain back valve in it could be bad, allowing drainback.

The rust is the big problem! I paid $2400 for mine a couple years ago.
It has a good bit of rust, but doesn't sound quite as bad as this one.
The only reason I gave so much is that it had the equipment I wanted
(six cylinder four speed, NOT lifted/geared/molested in any way), and
the transmission and transfer case had recently been rebuilt along with
new universals in the front axle. If I were in the market for a V-8
powered J-10 I think the most what you're looking at would be worth to
me is about $1500. I'd say in the $1000-$2000 range depending on how bad
you want it. As you guessed, Pioneer was the fancier version. Mine's
bone stock except that the previous owner took the bench seat out and
installed factory buckets and center armrest from a full size Cherokee.

I found a 74 J-10 Pickup for sale. It is all there. V8 Auto, 4 wheel Drive,
Power steering, A/C(don't know if it works but it is all there, Long box,
grill & bumpers are straight, but there ia a lot of rust, rockers are gone,
lower rear corners of box are rusted out, outside of box has lots of rust at
floor level. outside of the rust struck is pretty straight. The lady just
lost her husband and wants to sell the pickup, says he drove it the day he
passed away. Has a 102000 original miles.
Can anyone give me an idea what this would be worth. I'm not looking to
steal it, but would give a fair price for it. By the way it has the name
Pioneer on the sides at the rear of the box, Has Buckets and center arm
rest, looks like it was the fancier trim package.
