Thanks for your input, Dave. I guess more what I have in mind is along the lines of "Can I use the Kammback as a basic, stock driver pretty much as is?" I'm sure the little 2.5 4-banger is a bit underpowered for a heavy car made heavier with the 4x4 underpinnings, but that's okay. (After all, I got through most of my late teens and early 20s in a 1970 VW bus, so even a riding lawn mower seems torquey and spry in comparison!) But is the engine that bad? Will I be replacing head gaskets every 10K miles? Is the carburetor on that engine a shitty design that floods and gets crudded up easily? Is it impossible to find the end cap for the front bumper? You know, that sort of thing. . . I have to say, since I've never owned an AMC newer than a '64, and I'd never really been that interested in post-67 AMCs, but I'm really intrigued by the car. I've always liked to drive oddities, and even by AMC standards, the Kammback is an odd and rare bird! There was a Kammback at Kenosha in July, and I about pooped my pants I was so excited to see one live and in person! - Justin > Date: Mon, 13 Aug 2007 10:13:33 -0700 (PDT) > From: d stohler <das24rules@xxxxxxxxx> > Subject: [Amc-list] Thoughts on the Kammback that's on Ebay right > now? > To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx > Message-ID: <624807.4024.qm@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 > > have a nice vision dancing in my head for that car. i > can see a BUILT 401 sittin in place of that wheezy 4 > popper, and a 727. make a great wheel stander/sleeper > car there. > > or, second idea... > build you a 4.6 supercharged, and drop in with a 5 > speed, leave the all wheel drive. have you a little > "preruner" style car. light, all wheel drive, plenty > of wheel travel. may have to trim out the wheel wells > a little.... > > well, you asked for thoughts on the car.... > > dave stohler > http://picasaweb.google.com/das24rules _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
