Re: [Amc-list] 65 wiring diagram

A: The resistor wire showed up shortly after the switch to 12 volt from 6 volt (some years got a coil with built in resistor before they found out the 12V boost while cranking made it much easier to start in cold weather.) The two small wires on the solenoid (3 if it's auto, but that's a ground that attaches to the backside for neutral safety) are marked S (for start) and I (for ignition) The "I" terminal picks up 12VDC power when the solenoid is engaged.

the biggest problem i am having right now, when the
key is on, the oil idiot light is on SOMETIMES like it
should be when car is not running. when the key goes
off, there is a little glow thru the oil light, and
the alt light is almost fully lit. but, the wierd
thing, is the alt light will pulse dimmer, and when it
does that, the oil light will get brighter. uppon
checking the green? wire, (its to dirty to tell for
sure, need to get it cleaned up) on the alt. has a
plastic clip to what looks like the regulator. it is
getting power at all times. it runs down to one side
of the starter solenoid. im going to "assume" this
could be the reasoning for the pulsing alt light when
the key is off? getting power backwards thru the
regulator to the alt wire that tells it when its dead?
i dont know. its confusing, as some other wires have
been spliced in its lifetime and such.

the starter, you hit it to the start position, it will
spin, not always engage, but will hardly EVER stop
spinning when you let off of the key. sometimes it
will engage, and not disengage untill i pull a
terminal off the batt.

one more problem, i only have power to the coil when
in the cranking position. so it will do that little
run for just a sec when ya try to start it and as soon
as you let off the start position, it dies. i got
around that for running it in the driveway here by
putting a jumper wire from coil + side to the batt. it
is an aftermarket performance coil and points so im
not to worried about the resistance not present (if it
even has it for that year).

so, as some can now see, i could REALLY use a wiring
diagram. i intend to get a tsm, but i cant afford that
right now. i am doing little junk i can do in the
driveway right now.
