Re: [Amc-list] Replacement Carb Suggestions

I once used a Holley 750cfm vacuum secondary square bore carb on a 78 Ford F100 460 engines spread bore intake. I fitted it with a generic Quadrajet adapter and it ran pretty darned good.
I had no choice as the Ford spread bore carb had died and was siezed from sitting. I oculd not find a replacement nor afford a new intake. You'd think the funky gap created by the adapter being open plenum and the intake spread bor four hole that it would have had some issue, But I honestly remember how surprised I was that it worked so good in use!
I should of kept that truck too. 78 F100 explorer 2wd truck, bought by my fatherinlaw new for towing his boats.
Man talk about run, a 460 in 1/2 ton two wheel drive truck! Stock! It towed boats like it didn't even know or care they were there!
It went because back in the early 90's we were not exactly rich with tow kids/house/cars/payments and only one salary with me being a stay-at-home dad. Hmmm. I never thought that 12-15 years later we'd be here, no payments at all and two decent incomes
