The difference in your balancing of the Hornet brakes and Dave's balancing problem is the master cylinder volume. The front calipers he's using require a lot more volume than the one's you have -- about the same as the Big Bendix calipers (maybe a bit more). Let's see... 76 Hornets used the Big Bendix calipers. They also used the 7/8" wheel cylinder (and 1-1/8" master cylinder, and 9x2 rear brakes). Dave's current wheel cylinders are slightly smaller at 13/16". Since the brakes are locking so quickly I'm not sure 7/8" will work. 76 Matador wagons used 15/16" rear wheel cylinders though. The only problem with all this is the 76 parts are all Bendix, he needs a 7/8" or 15/16" Wagner wheel cylinder. They should be out there, but I don't know what application. All the AMC V-8 cars went to Bendix when a bigger wheel cylinder/rear brake was required. ---------------- Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2007 11:28:22 -0700 From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> On Fri, 2007-07-20 at 16:22 +0000, Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx wrote: > > I got to ask, Were would you look to find smaller wheel cylinders??? > >From the grand unified brake list! I already did this on my Hornet; I got perfect balance by changing to a smaller rear bore. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
