Re: [Amc-list] Destiny reigns (or is that rains?) again!

A: The biggest issue is when did they stop using the Buick nailhead TH400 with adapter and switch to a Jag only bellhousing? Perhaps the V12s got the TH400 earlier than in Canada as I recall mine being a '74 and it had the ring. (it was a beautiful sapphire blue or whatever color they call that. I stuck a Chev 350 in it with the advanced adapters kit because I didn't know about the AMC Jeep/ unipatternTH400 connection at that time)

you have a good chance. they didn't switch from the bw m12 to
the
th400 until '79, and i think their next switch was to the 4L80e
much
later.

just did a little internet snooping -
http://www.jcna.com/library/news/2002/jcna0105.html and
http://www.jcna.com/library/tech/tech0012.html only mention the
bw on
earlier xj and the th400 on later ones. how late were they sold
here?
and
http://www.jaguar.com/uk/en/jaguar_ownership/company/heritage/1989_1996.htm
says "Although during 1993 there were no entirely new products
launched, the company did put a lot of resource into improving
and
extending the current range. A new V12 saloon was the first
addition
to be announced. The new Jaguar XJ12 and Daimler Double Six
featured a
more powerful, refined and economical 6.0 litre version of the
V12
engine providing 318 BHP and a new 4-speed electronic automatic
transmission." and "The XJS range underwent significant changes
in
specification to strengthen its appeal and competitiveness. The
main
changes were the installation of the new 6.0 litre V12 engine,
which
provided startling improvements in performance, the 4-speed
automatic
transmission was also available on V12 models"...
http://www.jaguar.com/uk/en/jaguar_ownership/company/heritage/1979_1989.htm
says nothing about v12 transmissions at all.
