Easiest way to tell a 904 from a 727 torqueflite is the shape of the oil pan. 727 has a slight "kick out" in one corner which makes sorta look like Nebraska or even Oklahoma. The 904 pan is essentially a rectangle with one corner chopped off. All 2wd 904s have a short tail shaft I believe.
