Subject: [Amc-list] bout a Chevy, please no.
80 oncord wagon, 6cyl, I have a 304 in the garage and would like to swap
when the time comes to stop the 6cyl.
I have learned/heard that the cross members for V8 Gremlins, Concords and
such are the same, a bolt in thing. Just the cost to buy one IF not lucky
enough to pull one from a RARE scrap.
Also told that the trans in my concord will bolt right up to the V8 and the
6cyl. I have replaced the radiator with a 3 row so I am set there. Wiring
would be the final question.

Use the www.Bulltear.com 6/V8 swap mounts - easy / neat / strong.

As my 'Good Friend' Kip Winger sings in his Video Vh-1 :
"Headed for a Hearrrt-Ache"...
The A998 is/was used behind the 304 - for good reason -
and was usually 'dead' by 90K miles -
The A727 is/was used behind the 360/401 - for more good reasons -
mine in my '73 360 AMX was 'dead' at 92K miles -
Eagle Wagons ATE 998s for 'Lunch' on a regular basis
as they ran them WAY HOT due to the Wagons Weight
and lack of any sane cooling efficiencies.
Yes, there are a few that made good numbers on their
Odometer..... BUT NOT MANY !!
120K and they were TOAST around these hilly parts.
No........ I don't want to hear 'TESTIMOANIALS' on
Eagle Transmission Milage Awards -
I saw enough of
them junked AND checked the mileage........"...yeah,
nice body.... trannies shot tho...." oK.....thanks.
304/904 = "Smokin' Joe Rootie"
Do it right - find an A-999 from a late Wrangler -
and run a rough cast alloy aftermarket deep pan
and the Muth of ALL Trannie Coolers with a Thermostatic
Bypass.
Your 6cyl 904 has less clutches -smaller bands and will
spit a pressed in fitting holding your less than stellar
3 planateries in place.
I'll say also, you could find a Lock Up 998 and rebuild it
along with an aftermarket Loc Up TQ convertor that will have
a thicker 'neck' that goes into the pump - as these
fracture easily [mine did...] - which will give you a 'Hydraulic Overdrive'
You can get a kit to upgrade the Lock Up 998 to 999 specs-
which is the BEST way to go for a TQflite install -
- if not -
a late model 999
at the very least with deep extra Qts. CAST alloy pan -
not polished - and a Trans Cooler / Thermostatic bypass.
Create a 'Stud Kit' for the Trans Pan rail - Loc Tite the
studs in - this way - you won't rip out those tiny frail
threads when you 'blink' and feel miserable as the trans drips itself
dry on your concrete floor.
Wanna' get 'jiggy' wit-titT?
Install a 2wd Aisin Warner 4speed Automatic from an '88-'89 Cherokee
that uses the 'stand alone' TCM - transmission control module.
These go for 'dirt' cheap on the www.naxja.org site - post an
Want Ad - go for 'The Gold' - have a *Sweet 4spd* and save a pile of headache.
".....CAN I GET AN 'AMEN BRUTHAhh'?
yeah, ... -
