Armand, If you can't lube that speedo cable to eliminate the bouncing needle, you might want to replace it. If that doesn't work, you may need to have the speedo head rebuilt. You probably knew all that, but that's the chain of logic I would try if I were dealing with that problem. My former Spirit had a noisy speedometer when cold (less than about 70 degrees ambient). It always quietened after the car was driven awhile or the ambient temps rose. I suspected that it needed lubricant but never made the effort. Your fuel economy numbers do suck. I think my 73 Javelin 304/auto 2-bbl Motorcraft (same rear gears I think) gets about 14 - 15 mpg.
