What's very strange concerning the issue of rear shoulder belts is this: When we were working on Project Hornet, I noticed that with the trim panels removed, the inner sail panels had what appeared to be a seat belt mounting hole. It was part of a metal brace that was structural and was the correct diameter for a seat belt bolt. However, the hole wasn't tapped, it was just the reinforced hole. It was in a place that would have been appropriate for a rear mounted shoulder belt. I puzzled over it a while, but then left it alone. I did put three-point belts in the rear seat of the car, but I used the rear belts from the Buick that gave us its seats and they mounted in the package tray. I welded some stout braces in the package tray for the Buick belts. I've not taken an opportunity to look at other cars for this hole/brace, but if this was found on a 73 Hornet, could it also be on others?? I've heard talk of the earlier cars having the reinforcements for front shoulder belts. I think the discussions were for 1968's since they were required after Jan 1, 1968. I also just checked the options lists I have for 1967 and 1968 and shoulder belts first show up as an option on the 1968 list. I would think the easiest way to get modern shoulder belts for the rear passengers is to swipe them out of a car that has them already. I just looked and Kanter sells three point harnesses. I'm sure you can get them from most street rod interior places as well.
