I've got 327's, but I'm a little farther east than where you are heading.
Keep in mind, that any thing you decide to do to those 287 heads will not be wasted when switching later to a 327. The heads are the same.
  As Tom found out, once the crap builds up on the valve stems it is very difficult to get it removed without taking the heads apart and doing a very thorough cleaning.
   I plan on doing mine before I even try to get one running.
