[Amc-list] Hacked

I made some more progress on the 77 Gremlin today.
Since I have it running good, I could begin to address
a fairly long list of sqawks.
I have been starting it using my underhood starter
switch (jumped from hot lead on the solenoid to the S
terminal). That's not too convenient to do all the
time, so I thought I would fix the ignition switch.
After ruling out the neutral/start switch in the auto
transmission (which works as designed) and testing for
voltage at the S terminal when using the ignition key,
plus tracing and out wires, I looked at the ignition
switch.
A previous owner had installed an ignition switch from
a tilt column car. After replacing that switch with a
known good used switch for a standard column, I still
had no joy.
The steering column had a 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap between
the top section and the shift collar. After adjusting
the ignition switch on the column numerous times I
finally realized that the gap was not allowing the
ignition switch to actuate all the way to the 'start"
position.
After correcting that, the ignition switch works as
designed. As I was putting it all back together the
brittle plastic on the turn signal switch broke so I
need to get a replacement before I finish the repair.
All in all a good day though.
And Jeff Gordon won again.
