Re: [Amc-list] 64 195.6 6cyl

If it was never run everything should be fine. You might want to spray some WD-40 or other penetrating oil around the rings before moving the pistons, and let it soak a few hours/over night. Iron rings, iron block, and a little moisture leads to stuck rings. Once broke loose they should still be fine. I've revived engines that sat for year and the rings stuck. One left little pits where the rings had been stuck in every cylinder. What little compression was lost (if any) didn't affect it. It ran for several years and never burned more oil than any 100K mile engine would be expected to. Power was as expected considering mileage also. Tension in the rings should be fine -- cars last 20+ years with the rings compressed.

years ago I bought an overhaul kit for my 195.6 from Kanter Auto Parts.
Had the head done, block was bored 30 new pistons rings. The guy that put
the bottom of the engine together gouged the crank so bad that I coud not
even turn the motor over, he lost parts that I have just recently found. I
tore the engine back down, found a good crank, have reordered new bearings
(rod, MAin & camshaft). My question is this, the engine was never started.
The rings should still be ok to use shouldn't they.
