Re: [Amc-list] Re; ELECTRO-RAMBLER =revisited=

I snipped of the post as I don't want to get this one too long.
I agree completely with your range speculation/questioning. 300 miles just plain seems high for most electrics. I have no intetention of even trying for that if I can egt to the point of building one. A lot of people need hybrid technology as they drive too far daily to allow them to use a true staright electric car. Hybrids are missing the mark right now by not allowing them to be plugged in. For my "plans" I'm being realistic. It would be a daily driver for local use only. I don't plan to try and build a car that will tarvel more then 75 miles at a time without a charge. No frills are needed either. I'm talking bare bones and keeping it as lightweight as possible.
If I can get to the point of building it, this would allow me to full fill my dream of one vehicle to use even if there is not a drop of gas to be found.
Somewhere online a while back I read a write up from someone who had built an XJ electric. I wonder how that worked out? It was even left 4X4, I'm not sure what range it would have achieved as that's a lot of gear to be turning. Interesting concept. theres also a Fiero outthere that the guy built and drives year roudn in cold and warm weather in the midwest IIRC. He uses electric battery blankets in cold weather to warm the batteries and get extra mileage. I foudn it interestingthat the reisistance heater blankets turned out to provide a positive return in allowing a range increase. I would have thought the trade off owul dhave been negative against the blankets?
Another thing I have wondered. Is it safe to park and electric car inside a garage when charging it? How many batteries chargign does it take ot build enough gases to cause worry? Plus even if it does not reach critical mass, is it healthy in the garage attached to or in the basement of a house?
   Enough for now.
