The first sentence could be misleading -- that's why I added the caveats, which I thought covered most of what you did, just not in detail. All the glass is the same -- for the same body styles. The stripped unit body is almost the same except for the quarter panels and the 66-67 Ambassador stretch. One thing I do want to clear up -- the torque tubes ARE THE SAME for stretched Ambos and all other 63-66 models, one for V-8s, one for sixes. I recently looked that up in the parts book. The suspension crossmember is different for the 66-67 Ambo due to the engine setback/longer wheelbase, but that just affects the engine mount perches. I believe the side plates must be different -- will have to look that up now! 4" is a lot of engine setback from the crossmember, but could be done with just the perches. It's been to long since I've looked under the hood of a 65+ Ambassador! -------------------------------------------- Date: Tuesday, April 3, 2007 08:51 PM From: Matt Haas <mhaas@xxxxxxx> Swygert, Francis G MSgt 436 CES/CECM wrote: > All sheet metal, including the dash, will interchange between 63-66 > Classic and Ambo models. For 1965 and 1966 (at least, I don't know much about 63 and 64), the exterior sheet metal is very different between an Ambassador and a Classic. The front end stuff is too long (Ambo's have a 4 inch stretch between the door and wheel well) and the quarters are significantly different due to tail light differences. I would say the easy interchanges would be the doors (unless the body lines are different), trunk lid, and the roof. You could probably make the bumpers work but they would be very out of place. It is fair to say that these models are structurally the same from the firewall back and they obviously share most of the same mechanicals (torque tubes and cross members are different due to the stretch). _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
