Re: [Amc-list] EFI install on [anything modest]

Come to think of it... I have only had # different carbureted vehicles: a '71 Buick Electra 225, '78 FIAT 128 (not a Polski-FIAT or LADA ;-) ), several various VW Sedans (Beetles) from 1200 to 1600 cc, a VW Bus, and an '81 Toyota Tercel. All of the others were (mostly) diesel or fuel injected. The only carburetor I fooled with at all, "way" back in 1990 was the Toyota. My preference for a fuel system would be diesel first, then Bosch K or KE gasoline injection. I always wanted to try a gaseous fuel setup (your Web site is excellent Tom, by the way) but haven't got around to it. I don't mind OBD-I or OBD-II at all which is why I would have liked to try (time willing - hahaha) the MegaSquirt system.

Now... if I had room to spare I would have gone the donor vehicle route. Could I have found one as inexpensive as Mark? Perhaps, but any vehicle, regardless of cost, would have had to be close, i.e. Close enough for me to rent a tow dolly and fetch it in a day or less, preferably less. I also live in a place with no emissions inspections, however, with the influx of people here, it will only be a matter of time. I want to do as little modification to the car as possible which is why I waited a week for the Accel ignition coil with the same terminals as the original. I don't plan on ever using the Carter BBD carb. again once I switch over to injection, however I will carefully keep it and everything I've removed for the next owner, whoever that may be.

I did not document my ignition upgrade however, if anyone wants pictures of anything, I can. I would be more than willing to take pictures/document my progress on the injection upgrade. I only wish I had more information on GM air cleaners. I am going to use a Chevrolet C-1500 (unsure if it was a V6 or V8) air cleaner adapter and air cleaner bottom mated to an AMC Eagle top. I hate to cut up an AMC air cleaner, but I couldn't find an acceptable one to fit the throttle body. I almost went with a Crown Victoria one as it looked to have even the same fresh air intake as the Eagle. Anyone have any '80s V8 Crown Victoria's (or any other Fords for that matter that have an air cleaner that could mount to a 5-1/8" throttle body/carb.) laying around that they could look at?

Regards,

Russell
