After their use in hot rods, funny cars, and top-fuel dragsters,
roller
lifters saw use by Motown, but can you roll out any AMC-related
history?

Firsts? Lasts? Connections? Curiosities? Do you know? Do you
care?

Well I do; so, in no particular order, here are a few. Fiat, Wasp,
Isky,
Dick, Buick, and NASCAR Matador.

I gigged with the original Shirelles' one summer
@ Joe PoP's Shore Bar N.J.- didn't see anything MoTown
'Roller Lifter'd ' - worked with the Five Satins - Chubby Checker -
most of the original Coasters too......
did have one 'Special Evening' tho -
Chubby was there performing 2 shows Friday
and 2 Saturday - > a local surviving Hippie 'burn0ut'
apparently went mystical over Chubby - who was
on a break backstage in the Kitchen area behind the
stage backwall.

Mr. Mystic went wantering back there flying low
& "hanging out" ...
rolling his lifter in plain text - looking for Chubby...
Mrs. Joe PoP's , old Italian lady grabbs a meat cleaver
and chases MM around a table & out thru the Club >
& out the door......... swear to God - True Story!

as to AMC roller lifters:

CRANE has them hydraulic for AMC, you need to
contact them as they don't list them much.

I've 'hinted' to a builder who works @ Bulltear
to make the 'rev kit' spring bar for the AMC V8
to use with solid roller lifters.

These put a 'rev spring' on'top of the solid roller
lifters - the bar fits below and against the bottom
of the cylinder head - keeping the springs in place.

This traditional 'Rev Kit' I believe was developed by
ISKY - back when.

It keeps the roller lifter in constant contact with the
cam lobe - and relieves some of the weight transfer
of the lifter body to the valve springs - a very good
idea, as the valve can then close a bit faster.

Back in '58 I recall an Army friend of Dads who
was invited for Dinner talking cars.

He explained engines & said to build the engine with a 'Solid
Lifter Roller' cam - as the difference was noticeable &
the engine made 'better sounds'.......hmm.

so ......... still got that 33K mile '78 360 .....
looks like the stable door is open.

Now where could that horse be I wonder ?
