John, I don't have an answer to your specific question, but I prefer to use the softest pads I can get if all I'm doing is replacing pads. It's been my experience that metallic pads really chew up rotors that don't have a perfectly flat and true surface. I want the pads wear down rather than the rotor. Pads are cheaper. If the rotors are new or properly surfaced, then the metallic pads work well. I don't know anything about ceramic pads, but I would guess they are pretty hard as well.
