The ones in my 96 Ram are still going strong at over 133,000 miles. 
Roller lifters have been used by the OEM's for over 20 years now. As 
long as you're not buying cheap parts, I doubt durability is a problem. 
I would think that comparing otherwise identical cams, the roller lifter 
is going to last longer due to less friction.
