AMC-List Rules Subscribers who violate these policies will receive one warning. The second infraction will get you kicked off the list. An e-mail from the moderator concerning a subject or a post on the list IS NOT considered a warning. Warnings will be CLEARLY STATED as such and in e-mail. The first kick-off will generally be temporary, time period to be determined by the moderator. A second kick-off will generally be permanent -- it depends on time since the first and severity of infractions. If you have to be asked to keep your cool every month or so, and tend to ignore polite reminders, don't expect to be allowed back on the list. All decisions by the moderator are final. Remember, access to the list is not a right, it's a privilege. Abuse that privilege on a regular basis and it will be taken away. The moderator maintains this list as a service to all AMC enthusiasts at his own expense. All decisions made by the moderator are final. The topic of the list is AMC vehicles, loosely defined as vehicles designed, engineered, manufactured, and/or sold by the American Motors Corporation. General, non-AMC-specific technical information is also permitted if it is of value to people working on AMC vehicles. All messages must include the author's name OR e-mail in the text of the message or in the header. Due to concerns with SPAM, an e-mail address is not required but is highly encouraged. To prevent your address from being picked up by a possible e-mail harvester replace "@" with the word AT or one of the periods with the word "DOT" in your signature. These are obvious to someone replying. Fortunately the list is small and on a secure server -- the possibility of someone harvesting e-mails is remote. Most reports of SPAM suspecting the list as a source are actually from members computers infected with a virus or spy-ware. When replying to list mail, do not send the reply to the list unless it will be of interest to the list. Reply to the individual author if your message is not of general interest. This is why an e-mail address is recommended. In particular if you want to purchase an item for sale that has been posted to the list, please reply to the individual posting the item - not the entire list. It is important to check the address in your reply since it will go to the entire list by default in most cases. The "Subject" line should reflect the content of the message. If you change the subject of a thread, change the "Subject" line. In replies, quote as much of the original message as necessary to establish the context. Edit out unnecessary material. **Abusive or insulting messages are absolutely not allowed. All list members, and their vehicles, must be treated with respect.** Advertising is permitted on the list, vendors and personal, within the following guidelines: Up to two ads in any calendar month per subscriber No more than 100 lines of text (about 5K) per ad Ads must be specifically geared toward AMC enthusiasts MUST include an e-mail or phone number MUST be a list member (members can pass on information from a non-member if it is of interest to all list members) Once a request for or offer of merchandise has been posted to the list, all subsequent correspondence concerning a transaction must be conducted OFF the list. If you are selling a vehicle, we suggest that you use the following format to advertise it. Simply cut and paste this template into an e-mail to the list and change the information as applicable. This will help prevent ten replies all asking about a detail you forgot to include, and it will also help you sell your vehicle faster. MODEL: Rambler Ambassador YEAR: 1964 BODY STYLE: 990-H 2-door hardtop ENGINE: 327 4-barrel TRANSMISSION: Automatic COLOR: yellow with black top, black interior MILEAGE: 34,000 original miles LOCATION: Austin, TX (PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THIS!) E-MAIL ADDRESS: wish.it.was.mine AT mail.utexas.edu ASKING PRICE: $4,500 O.B.O. (optional but recommended) PHONE NUMBER: (512)-123-4567 (optional; must include area code) Then feel free to describe any options, how the car runs, handles, any rust problems, and so forth... the important point to make is that the above template will help answer a lot of common questions that people frequently forget to answer in their ads. That in turn will help reduce the volume of unnecessary list mail! If mail to a subscriber is "bounced" back to the list administrator due to a full mailbox or technical error on the subscriber's system, the system will automatically unsubscribe the member from the list in order to reduce unnecessary load on the AMC-List system. Subscribers should unsubscribe or set their mail status to "postpone" to avoid such problems when they are unable to check their mail. When in "postpone" or "suspend" mode no mail will be sent, but a member can still post and read the List on the web site. TIP: Remember, the web site and List are TWO DIFFERENT ENTITIES! The AMX Files site receives mail just like any member, then mirrors the posts to the site for public view. If mail service gets interrupted, usually due to the regular Internet DNS shuffle, it may take a few days to get the service straightened out, especially if it fails on or just before a weekend. This will happen 2-3 times a year. Jim will generally post "missing" days to the site after the problem is fixed. If you're concerned about missing posts, get the list in Digest mode. This will consolidate all messages into 2-4 mails per day and send them to your mail box instead of 10-50 individual mails filling your box. Digests files aren't as big as all the individual mail messages. Digest mode is now the default when you sign up on the list.
