[Amc-list] leaking Saginaw manual steering gear box

hi all
I bought two Saginaw manual steering gearboxes at the Rambler 100th
birthday swap meet several years ago and they both leak pretty bad so
they've just been laying in the garage. I want to put one of them in my
car however so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience working on
these as a DIY project. The web is surprisingly void of any help on
doing this or I'm not searching on the right words. I have the
directions shown in the factory service manual but they show a few
specialty tools which I don't own which I suppose I could buy but I
haven't priced out yet.
Can anyone point me in the right direction here? the rebuilt units I can
find from places such as carsteering.com run close to $300. I am hoping
to repair one I already own for much less than that if possible.
or is there a trick to getting them to stop leaking without taking them
apart?
thanks
Doug
