You know I always wanted to do the opposite and defourwheel drive an SX4 since it is already flaired and such! Right now, I have to get my shoulder taken care of and healed up. Did the Arthrogram and MRI on it yesterday. Don't let anyone tell you an Arthrogram only hurts a little! A Large needle run into the joint cavity of of your shoulder just plain hurts a lot! 3 weeks to go till I see my Orthopedic doc to see if he can fix it! I started on my gauges install in the American! I wanted to do a full custom install. I bought six Autometer Sport Comp gauges and a Billet specialties gauge panel. My plan was to do a steel rework and fit the billet panel in place of the plastic 69 cluster surround. Once I got into it I see it would be doable if I took the dash out and was healthy. Right now, that is not something I'm able to do. So I've regrouped. I'm now mounting the Billet specialties gauge panel into the plastic 69 surround. It is not for the weak at heart as it totals the plastic surround! But, it leaves the steel dash unscathed! I have to work overtime tonight and tomorrow night. I'm hoping to take some pics to document progress before going any farther. One of the things I had done to the cluster before was I use Fleckstone to paint the cluster plasti a gray texture that was a nice match for the tweed on the seats and door panels. Once I get it reworked I plan on repainting it in the fleckstone and adding the 440 dash treatment across the glovebox and radio surround done in the same fleckstone. The good thing about all this is no good dash pieces have been harmed in the process! All my 440 trim pieces have the nipples broken off and the dash surround I started with had a bunch of cigarette lighter circles burn't in it! I hope to have the thing done before the weather brakes and document the whole process, much the same way CarCraft did. What I'm doing is a very simple operation that others can copy easily. It requires sacrificing a gauge surround but no real steel dash surgery at all! the end result is a full set of six gauges! You could even make a cluster pin adapter to avoid harming the factory harness if you are so inclined! Making it possible to return to stock! -- Mark Price markprice242ATadelphia.net Morgantown, WV ---- Jim Blair <carnuck@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > A: I think you misread or I misprinted. Super nice w/3 AMO badges on the grill. Was this an actual new/current auction or something rerun from the past. Any idea of who the AMO member was that owned the car. It has a heavier chain than a 231, shorter, has a good low-range, and a fixed rear yoke (which wheelers prefer for double-cardan rear driveshafts). If I already had one of those, I'd investigate using that first, as its a good case. Its the bolt pattern compatibility that was primarily driving my comments. Waggy 727's (or CJ 9xx's) are plentiful, have the right engine pattern, and carry the round NP pattern on the rear, which gives you a wide variety of cases to choose from (even a 242) with easier clocking options. The assumption I am making is that the Ford D20 doesn't have a round pattern. What's it look like on the tranny side? -Spro -------------- Original message -------------- From: "Jim Blair" <carnuck@xxxxxxxxxxx> > A: I thought the Dana 300 took more space? I have so far kept the car period correct, but not totally origional. The car is just to nice to be sporting the 196 ohv. There is no aftermarket for it and not much potential. AM General was a merger of AMC's and Jeep's previous Government Products Divisions (GPD was the AMC division, not sure what Kaiser-Jeep called theirs). I do know that a lot of the early AM General products have American Motors on the data plates instead of AM General. I've seen quite a few of them in my career, and always look for the plates. I know we had some at Warner-Robins AFB that were made in the mid 70s and had American Motors on them instead of AM General. The delivery date is on the data plate. I don't know when the plate nomenclature changed. I can also say with authority that they are all six cylinder multi-fuel engines. You can't just put whatever fuel in though. There are a couple manual adjustments that have to be made to switch from one fuel type to another, or a mixture. I've never had to adjust one, but have discussed it with military vehicle mechanics. They really don't like them being run on gasoline as it's hard on the engines. Little or no lubrication with gasoline, and the engines are primarily designed for some grade of diesel/kerosene/jet fuel. Any of those run great! I seem to recall that we ran jet fuel (JP-4 or JP-8) whenever practical. Might be wrong on that, has been a while since I've been tasked as a driver! '64-'71 199/232/258 have the same small pattern as the 196; '72-up 232/258/4.0 have the larger 290-later v8 pattern. the later six is quite a lot longer than your 196; it could take just as much cutting though of a different sort to fit as a v8 would take. a non-amc possibility would be a ford 200. iirc they used the t96 up to '65 or so, so with the right bellhousing it'd bolt up to your t14. [phase 2: there are also sr4/t4/t5 pattern bells for the 170/200] there are a number of speed parts for it but imho the best is the australian/argentinian 12-port head and 2bbl intake. someone's bringing them into this country... late 200s, like the 250, have the ford small-v8 pattern. there is no t96-pattern bells for these. ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought ------------------------------ Message: 12 Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2007 16:03:31 -0800 (PST) From: russ hathaway <russh97309@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: [AMC-List] 66 classic wagon To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <92144.124.qm@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 I seem to remember someone needing tail gate stuff for a 65/6 classic wagon. Actually, anything behind the rear doors on a wagon falls into the hard to find category. Matt russ hathaway wrote: > I seem to remember someone needing tail gate stuff for > a 65/6 classic wagon.
