Hard to know for sure, of course. The good news here is that the manifolds from the Wagoneer will probably fit on the Matador. My son is wanting to use them when he puts his 360 back in after he's rebuilt it. The slow engagement on reverse is a common condition. If babied and not misstreated it will go a long way in that condition. Well, hot rodding may not be as prevalent as is used to be, especially on newer vehicles, but it's far from dead! Go over to a site like www.hotrodders.com (which I frequent). There are fewer people by percentage of population who can do it, but I don't think the number of hot rodders has gone down that much. There are more "checkbook rodders" than actual gear heads/grease monkeys though, that's for sure! The aftermarket is full of practically bolt together kits and a good many turn-key rods though. Jamie, you can't save them all! If you have to sacrifice the Chero to save the Comanche, it's just a sacrifice that has to be made. Besides, it's not like there aren't still lots of Cheros running around, can't be said for the Comanche (hard to find a good one). And you have to many cars anyway... ;> ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2007 07:25:19 -0600 From: "Swygert, Francis G MSgt 436 CES/CECM" <Francis.Swygert3@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] Cherokee diesel? They get lots of Jeep parts, many that are surplus export parts, or replacement parts. They had some 2.4 or 2.5 diesels intended as replacements for the 2.1 Renault at one time. The Renault 2.1 diesel was turbocharged -- all of them used in the Jeeps over here. Otherwise it wouldn't have had the power of the 2.5L four! Might be listed as less power, but the torque and gearing made it feel close to the same -- except for acceleration. I drove one years ago. Once up to speed it felt about the same as the 2.5L, but 0-45 was definitely slower. Once you hit about 45 the turbo was putting out a good bit of boost, I guess. Drove a lot like my old 196 American w/the modified cam -- not much you could do to make it go any quicker to 45, but drove pretty good after getting there. ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Wed, 03 Jan 2007 06:41:03 -0700 From: Keleigh Hardie <keleigh3000@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] My new 88 To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <459BB26F.5080800@xxxxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed I saw this once on a coffin-nose Mat. The car was in such nice shape (before the animals got to it) I wondered why it was there. I pulled the 747 for my Mat and found a plug missing, just like you did. I tore it down, and found the oil pump pretty much hosed. My theory was that it had been in a tranny shop, they'd done some pressure testing, and the customer had decline the repairs. And, of course, they forgot to put the plug back in the service port before it was towed to the yard. How does the trans work after you replaced the plug? I'd guess something similar occurred... For those who are interested in MegaSquirt the larger vid shows some tuning/readout happening on a laptop. http://www.ttdmotorsports.com/jeep/ We use bushing equipped turbos most of the time as they are available much cheaper then the ball bearing units, this one is a ball bearing T4 that was very expensive. When you turn this jeep off the turbo keeps spinning inside the housing for a long time, it kinda freaked me out the first time I heard it. It was limited to 5 pounds of boost with the factory computer that had been band-aid fixed. It had run a 12.7 in the 1/4 and put just shy of 600 hp through all 4 tires to the dyno with that config. It's running solely on the MegaSquirt now and we are doing fuel/ignition maps for up to 10 pounds of boost. We are still using the factory computer to shift the transmission (he didn't want to pay for a second controller) I'll post some pics and videos to my site in the next day or two. My goal is to keep the car as orignal as possible but because the engine that the car has is not rebuildable is it better to stick with the 360 or do some digging and try to get a 390? 2. I have found a 360 block to replace my damaged one but it would need to be bored 40 over.
