i've always thought of 'toploader' as referring to the ford t&c 4sp,
though many other trannies are also top loaders.
nascar uses jericos on road courses. i don't think any t5-based
tranny would stand 800+hp no matter what you did to beef it.
btw the ford toploaders all had model series in the 170s; the tremec
t176/177/178 4sp in early-'80s jeeps are toploaders. also in the
family was a hd 3sp t160 and a regular-duty 3sp t150. sound familiar?
