Steve, I've recolored seatbelts before, but it isn't recommended. The dye (or spray paint in my case -- nylon belts don't dye well!) COULd cause damage to the fibers and weaken the belt. I didn't experience any problems, but didn't have a head on collision with a brick wall or anything to test them either. So it's strictly "at your own risk". The 70s tight weave nylon belts will handle acrylic paint very well, I wouldn't try using a cloth dye on anything other than the early 60s fabric belts. You can get new belts from http://www.julianos.com/seat_belts.html in any color and several styles. They even make shoulder retrofit kits. That's the best and safest way to recolor old belts -- replace them! Julianos might be able to sew in the old buckles on new belts -- I've heard of someone having that done, but don't recall where. Juliano's does have the chrome "lift latch" type used in 60s Ramblers though. _______________________________________________ AMC-List mailing list AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list or go to http://www.amc-list.com
