I have a speedo problem on the 64 classic, It goes 0-120 as you are driving along, new cable installed same problem, cable greased same problem. Also want to put a smaller steering wheel on the 65 Marlin, I contacted Grant Wheels and they said they had nothing that worked. As alway, all help is appreciated. It should fit all other early AMCs as well. The only other option is to take an old steering wheel and cut the spokes near the hub. The new wheel mounts using the puller bolt holes. Of course early Ramblers don't have puller holes -- the puller screwed in the center -- so holes would have to be drilled and tapped. With a little work this method would look near factory. The link to Dave's post: http://www.amxfiles.com/archive/show.cfm?postid=112942&row=13&search=ste ering Looks like you have a defective speedo head -- has to be stuck inside to go to 120 right away. You might be able to pull it all apart and clean it, but I'd look for another unit. ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date: Tue, 21 Nov 2006 08:10:26 -0800 From: "Jim Blair" <carnuck@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [AMC-List] FW: Seller Special: 20 cent Listings - one day only! I know that Grant wheels fit on AMCs; I've done some, and I know many other listers have. I did a 62 Ambassador, 63 Classic, 75 Gremlin. I totally forget what kit I bought. The 62 was too long ago to recall; the 63, I had to modify some thing or other on the hub (horn ring contact, or was it turn signakl canceller, and somethin that didn't clear something in the column). 75, bolted on (GM column). The diameter of the trim cover provided by Grant is smaller than the Rambler column, leaving about 1/8" gap. For my 63 Classic, I made a thin aluminum disk the diameter of the Rambler column, that attached to the adapter with a few small screws, and painted it. The splined hub center fit fine in all cases. On all except the 62 Ambo, I eventually put stock wheels back on! The smaller diameter wheels put the wheel rim right across the speedo gauge. Check this before you buy... ------------------------------ Message: 9 Date: Tue, 21 Nov 2006 10:25:17 -0800 (PST) From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] speedo problem, steering wheel help To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <Pine.LNX.4.64.0611211023020.5964@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII On Tue, 21 Nov 2006, Swygert, Francis G MSgt 436 CES/CECM wrote: > Looks like you have a defective speedo head -- has to be stuck inside to > go to 120 right away. I dunno... if the inner cable at the head end wsa binding, the trans end would twist it up a bit until the bind let go, and would have enough energy to fling the pointer TINK TINK TINK TINK ... I'd do what others here said, pull the center out an inch or two, rotate it, reinsert, to make sure the square is really in the drive. ------------------------------ Message: 10 Date: Tue, 21 Nov 2006 12:23:24 -0600 From: namdra@xxxxxxxx Subject: [AMC-List] ADS To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <20061121.122325.-16607763.1.NAMDRA@xxxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 CAR FOR SALE - 71 Sc/360 Hornet.
