iirc from my chem days, it can even attack zinc - as in galvanizing.
dunno what it'd do with tinplate, as gas tank steel frequently was.
it's not only a good solvent, it can also encourage the formation of
mild acids with the water and gasoline.
as for gasohol's newness, we had it here in the early '80s.
