On the AFB, there should be an exploded view on Edelbrock's website that will be close enough to work. Last night was "fun" with all the rain and other things going on. (we're expecting another 4-10" today after a brief clearing this AM) Just as we were about to close the store last night (NAPA), I went outside to help a customer install her wipers (rain was just about zero at that point). I got one on, then looked up to see an 8' ball of fire come out of one of the perimeter lights next door (less than 100 feet from me). Ordinarily, this wouldn't be a big deal, BUT the place next door is a Chevron gas station! 1/2 way between me and the fire was the vapor vents for the gas station's fuel tanks and 50 feet the other way was the gas pumps which were in use! Without panicking a lot, I tried to go in the out door (can't do that, and I know better!) which was right behind me, so I pounded on the door to get the assistant manager's attention. Then I ran inside through the right door, and grabbed the fire extinguisher (taking enough time to make sure it was electric fire compatible) and told the AM to call 911 as there was a fire at the gas station next door. I ran across the parking lot, and aimed at the light (I was surprised with the wind and rain that I was able to spray that high up! Probably 25' or more up) and it went out about 20 seconds before the fire dept showed up. (somehow I managed to slice my thumb open on the extinguisher handle) We all looked up at it in amazement as the light bulb was even intact! (I figure the oil from the transformer dripped down and pooled in the lens till it ignited) Fire dept guys asked me how I knew just what to do, and I explained that I grew up in a little backwater area in Surrey, British Columbia where most guys were volunteer fire fighters. The lead fireman quipped "Next time there's a fire, we'll call you!" and they all laughed. (I tried out for Seattle fire dept before I became "too old" to qualify and I was beat out by 12 others who got hired in a field of 75 who showed up) After that, I came home and relaxed a bit (did some emails) as the rain was drenching everything again. Then I popped over to my friend Brian's place (perfect timing as the rain totally cleared till we were just putting things away) and we put another filter on his car (old one was filled solid again with fine sediment) from a TBI system. It still wasn't running good so we popped the top off the carb and the "silt" was almost an inch deep inside! (I had a carb kit for the BBD just in case, but we didn't need it) 1/2 a can of carb cleaner and a few adjustments later, we had it back together and went for a test drive. Trans was shifting poorly with the renewed engine power, so I lengthened the passing gear rod and that fixed most of it (there is a shudder when it locks up, so I figure he'll be replacing the torque converter very soon or someone got on it hard before and twisted the input shaft at the front drum. I've seen that before) All in all, last night was both exciting and productive! Sadly, we found out an XJ diff was 2" wider than an '82 Spirit, but he'll be able to rob the brake parts along with backing plates to "upgrade" the rear brakes to 10". Maybe we can have the XJ D35 axle shortened and resplined to fit the Model 15? _________________________________________________________________ All-in-one security and maintenance for your PC.
