(Landrover has them up to 4.0L now) My aunt had the earlier version (I think it was a 201? Aluminum block Buick V8) that rotted through the freeze plugs behind the timing chain. I watched her change them when I was @ 8 years old. She was driving until they took her license away at age 85 due to alzheimers (she drove fine, but couldn't remember where she was going) I'll be seeing the old bird on monday when we check out another bird in Canada. (If my cousin hasn't sold her Skylark, I may get a peek at the bell. We had to disable the car so she wouldn't drive it. Only way I could foil her formidable mechanical skills still was to cut the wire to the condenser so it looked like it was still hooked up) She retired years ago as a 4th grade teacher and aside from a healthy belief in a higher power and living the good life, she always said "If you think you can or you think you can't, you're right". I have the Nailhead adapter setup for a 327. If it would turn out Rangerover went to any of the overdrive trans in a nailhead pattern! I could then maybe adapt a overdrive to a Gen I engine! Cool! NAW! Can't be that easy! ------------------ Hmmm... the Rover V-8 is the old Buick 215 aluminum V-8. I don't know what pattern it used, the B-O-P or SBC. It could have the nailhead pattern, but I doubt it. I've never seen one of those out of a vehicle though. You might ask on some Range Rover boards what pattern is still used, and what transmissions. Might be Borg-Warner model 65 s or Aisin-Warner derivatives. Could even be an HD version of the AW-4 as used behind the Lexus V-8 (in fact that's very likely!). _________________________________________________________________ Try the new Live Search today! http://imagine-windowslive.com/minisites/searchlaunch/?locale=en-us&FORM=WLMTAG ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Sat, 7 Oct 2006 11:14:52 -0400 (EDT) From: adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Sandwich Maker) Subject: [AMC-List] sic transit gloria ramblers To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <200610071514.k97FEqG07546@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> my half-finished '65 american hotrod project car and my picked-over '66 american parts car are now officially dead. mark price's deal fell through, and i've just now gotten the city's official notice. i have until friday to remove the cars, so unless lightning strikes, off to the junkyard they go. ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date: Sat, 07 Oct 2006 08:28:08 -0700 From: "Jim Blair" <carnuck@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] Not the AM Macaren To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <BAY114-F258329D8E322E1C8CB550CAC100@xxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed That "Pacer" is a toon car! http://evenements.caradisiac.com/salon-paris/Des-chinois-sans-complexes-840 Chrysler will be dumped so they can go "bankrupt" and lose the high healthcare costs. (just like the other companies are doing by "trimming fat" on the bottom rather than the top) Jeep makes most of it's sales in trucks, so what are they doing? Turning their "trucks" into cars! They are building more Soccer mom vehicles rather than making something capable of being driven on the "real" roads out there (which requires offroad suspesion to keep people from spilling their lattes) As for the 1/2 V8s, IH tried that and somewhat failed (althought they were making Scouts and not cars to put them in) _________________________________________________________________ All-in-one security and maintenance for your PC. The same company that made the overflow tank also listed a 13 lbs billet cap for 36$. I have an old radiator so I don't want a 13 lbs cap. It appeared to be an octagon shaped regular radiator cap like the one I have on the car pressed into a billet aluminum cover. So I bought it. Upon removing the cap from the billet cover I found the cap itself to be the same cheap made in Mexico 5$ after market cap I have on the car. Seeing them next to each other was always a hoot. The 4 cyl was quite literally as if someone had just lopped off 1 bank and changed as little as possible otherwise. It had some seriously weird castings and I loved looking at that thing. It's on my list of engines I love and will play with again at some point. One thing I've always loved about both AMCs and Pontiacs is the common external dimensions of the engines, it's a dream for engine swaps. I do wish that they had kept a common flange though on the amc cranks for the transmission fitment though, pre or post BW/Chrysler change over is a pain in the butt. Pontiacs used different crank journal sizing for the 428 and 455 that is less of a pain but still sometimes is irritating. To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <000a01c6ea63$cdb941d0$07dd0d82@john1> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" A young 80 year old is cleaning out his garage of assorted hobby parts, probably looking for some cheese or something like that. Sort of the same thing I am going to have to do shortly with my garage. In any case following is the description of parts as given to me; 53-55 Nash Hudson A/C condenser. (good working condition) 53-55 Nash Hudson A/C compressor. Tecsumse I think. Very large and works good. Generator, rebuilt for 1953 Hudson. Now, any one who questions the application of these parts, I know that a 53 Hudson is a true Hudson and a 55 Hudson is a re-badged Nash. That is why they call them Hashes. Also Hudson used the big Flat head I-6 and Nashes used a variety of Flat head and overhead valve I-6's in those years. As did the later Hudsons which were re-badged Nashes along with the use of the big flat head I6. Now just to add to the confusion, lets not forget the use of the 320 cu in Packard V8 in both cars in 1955. So! If some one knows more than I do and is interested in obtaining these rare and wonderful components, contact me off line and I will give contact info out.
