Jesse,

My personnel experience with this is you need to go to a GREAT machine shop
and have everything checked for balance.
I swapped in a T5 into my 70 Javelin that used to have the BW automatic. It
took two years to find the correct flywheel for the change. If you are
changing the flywheel only, on an engine, the new flywheel may or may not be
exactly balanced to your engine. This may not make any difference if the out
of balance situation is tolerable, but if it isn't the engine may shake
itself to death. I found a GREAT machine shop very close to home when I was
doing the swap. This shop match balanced the new flywheel to the old flex
plate. I took them the appropriate crank, the engines harmonic balancer, the
flexplate and flywheel. The engine runs just as vibration free or better
than when it had the automatic.
Armand

About the Versailles 9 inch. So far everything I've heard about this setup
is good, better grab it while you can. It swaps right in without changing
the width, or so everyone has stated.

The B/W trans in my 1967 290 Ambassador has developed
an odd issue. NOT all the time, but alot after warming
up it skips 2nd gear on upshift? One time you pull
away from a stop it upshifts 1,2,3 just fine.Does not
slip. Next time you leave a stop it skips 2nd gear?
I'm not talking fast acceleration. Just normal
driving. I tried, and if i do accelerate it fasyer it
usually does not miss 2nd gear?It was rebuilt before i
bought the car . It's been 10 years or so since
rebuilt. Only 5-6000 miles on the build. Nice clean
red fluid. Fluid level shows fine on the dipstick.Any
ideas? I drive it quite often, when possible during the
summer. Email me directly also if you would.

HELP!!!!

I am supposed to go to Myrtle Beach to pick up and engine Monday, and I THINK I accidentally put the fellow's email in the BLOCK LIST! Here I am, all set to go to S.C., and I may have accidentally thrown his information away.

IF "you" see this, please re-email me, or post here on the list, so I can get in touch, again. Here I am, about to send a confirmation I'm going, up Monday evening to meet on Tuesday, and I can't find the information. Something to be said about the "Print" button, eh?

I'm posing this for a friend who has a 63 Classic
stick and small six.
He pulled the engine, swapped in a 64 American six
that I had, and bolted it back up. He used the same
clutch and tranny. Now the clutch rod is about a half
inch too long! He swears he put everything back in
right.
The only thing I can figure is the fork came off the
little ball, or the throw out bearing is in wrong. Any
thing I can toss his way.
I told him to take it apart again and double check
things. I gave him my American TSM as the clutch and
tranny should be the same save for the tail section of
the tranny....Russ

Joe,

Could be a vacuum leak or a bad modulator valve...

I would start with the modulator valve, as it is the device that decides when it is time to shift
based upon vacuum level...

How much pressure would be lost if two fittings were
installed in the pan? Sealing the fittings would be
easy, running the lines with an external filter a
piece of cake and I am thinking of a marine sump pump
to circulate things. Aren't those pumps adjustable?
Hydraulic fluid won't hurt them, right?
As if I don't have enough to do, now you guys got me
thinking of tearing up a perfectly good running
American. THANKS A LOT......Russ

Rebel Ambassador SC/Rambler

Eddie,
Thanks for all your quick email responses. I found out last night,
looking into my service manual, that the front drums are NOT
interchangeable with the rear drums. The front drums have external studs
and center wheel bearings and the rear drums have holes for studs with a
hole in the center for the axle. I don't know what I was thinking
possibly using these on the rear axle, they just won't work. Also,
flared drums were available on certain 6 cylinder models and all V8
models. Does anyone out there have any Bendix 10" flared rear drums that
they want to sell that are useable? I have discs in front and my rear
drums are still good with less than 40,000 original miles, but not sure
for how much longer.
Thanks, Mark.

For sale: '69 SC/Rambler EXTREME project/parts car. This is a shell of a
car. No interior, dash, motor, trans, etc. Rear 1/4's were cut out along
with the wheelhouses. (Person I bought it from said the guy thought he could
buy rear 1/4's easily). Floors have some rust as do rockers. I was told the
rear is an AMC 20. Does have flapper hood, that's about it. Factory torque
links. V.I.N is A9M097X******. Pictures are tough to get as the car is
stored inside but I can't roll car myself. I will see what I can do. Car
will be sold with bill of sale as this is what I purchased car with. I have
approx. two weeks to get rid of this. If it doesn't sell, off to the crusher
it goes. I can possibly help with transporting of the car. $650.00 or B.O.
Car is located in Connecticut.

Dang! You're in a heck of a fix! Better go page back through in
www.amxfiles.com and the AMC List archives, I guess.

You didn't impart enough information here to allow anyone to give you any
help.
What do you remember about it. The date of your missing message and the
subject line would help to scan for your message. Remember the guy's name?

Look for list members in SC? that might be posted on www.amxfiles.com.

Can't you look through your blocked listings?

Subject: Interchangeability of Automatic Transmissions, INTO 1965 Rambler American 440 with 195.6 Engine...
What trannys can I expect to get into this car with what modifications if necessary.
I have two '69s...a Rogue with 232 (no Cooling Lines) and a 69 with 199 NO cooling lines.
The '65 also hasn't any cooling lines.
Can these 69's be modified to work in the '65, and if so, what is necessary, and if not, what WILL fit??
Thanks..
I NEED this early next week (Monday). I'm pulling the trans out today (Wednesday, August 16).

Thanks for ANY help ANYONE can provide.

i -believe- they're a straight swap. at some point they changed the
way they do kickdown but i think that was in hornets, after the
american.

afaik length, splines, bolt pattern etc are the same. they may even
be the same model 35.

I'm looking to put an Edelbrock 4-barrel setup on my Matador coupe. It's
a 1977, with the 360 V8. Do I need to order the EGR or non-EGR version
of this manifold? And does anyone have a carb recommendation to go with it?

The problem here is that though there is one fluid pickup,
via the filter, there are many outlets to the pan (from the
internals).

Two, there are at least two kinds of filters; a flat screen
that fits onto the valve body, and another that has a sort of
air cleaner-like funnel that picks fluid up from the center of
the pan more or less.

I think without knowing pan oil flow, you could end up running
fluid in a circle through the pump, and not do any cooling
at all.

> Hydraulic fluid won't hurt them, right?

Trans fluid isn't hydraulic fluid. And I know that it eats
black fuel line -- there is special "transmission fluid" hose
used for trannie coolers.

Good luck! I would love to see how it goes (in spite of my
cynicism :-)

I'm thinking of simply adding a temp gauge to the trans, and
slowing down when it shows hot :-)

I think the EGR thing will depend on where you live.....do you need it
to pass the smog check....if not I would go
for one with out...as for a carb I am partial to Edelbrock's for street
use and racing.....I have a Performer intake and
 Edelbrock 600 on the 360 in my Jeep GW.....works great....best thing I
have done for it.........

need one for my 70 Ambo. Let me know. Thanks. BTW, received your
